What is your Trademark?

I read a very interesting article the other day at about trademarks that fits well with Jon Olsen’s rant on TELive about branding.

The article can be found here:

The rant can rant can be found here: lol

The article mentioned that “Trademark” is another way of referring to brands.

Two things in the article caught my eye. One is this statement:

“Consumers’ purchasing decisions are influenced by trademarks and the reputation such brands represent. It is important for business people to have an understanding of why trademarks are important assets and help grow their business.”

Replace the word “trademark” with “brand” in order to stay focused on the point that I am trying to make and that Jon Olson has been preaching for the longest time. In his rant he brought the meaning of what a branding is more into focus.

Our brand is much more than just our picture on a splash/squeeze page. Our brand has to do with how we “represent” ourselves to the Internet Marketing community. It shows what we stand for and what we are all about. That means different things for different people.

The next thing that caught my eye is what the article listed as the first of seven top reasons why trademarks are important to your business:

“1. Trademarks are an effective communication tool. In a single brand or logo, trademarks can convey intellectual and emotional attributes and messages about you, your company, and your company’s reputation, products and services.”

As you can see here, branding is much more than a picture on a page.

Some may have been a bit offended by what Jon had to say and some may have simply missed the point he was trying to make.

Maybe we should all take a pause and think a bit deeper about what was said in Jon’s rant and certain aspects of what the article in Entrepreneur bring out.

I hope this humble post has been a bit helpful in that regard.

XP on Badges

Yesterday we had the information that some badges would also give XP. It’s awesome news!

Now if you want to help (more) your team you’ll be able, just by surfing the sites (list of the sites here) that joined Tim Tech in this brilliant idea!

I, personally, only have one problem: how to handle the DC, all these sites and the others where i usually surf, with only a few hours per day to surf? Yes i have an offline job, that consumes about 8 hours…

Well, think i need to hire a surf slave… 🙂
